Quick update!!

Yes, there has been knitting. I finished my first paw dishcloth today and I have six more to go. I also finished my third Mandy's Candy Bag and have already gifted it to one of the girls I'm sitting for and have started one for her sister. I'll post pictures and links to the patterns up tomorrow. Proof that I'm doing more than just swapping and bloging...and work/babysitting. Hope everyone has a great friday!!!!

HSKS 3 Swap Questionnare

1. What Hogwarts house have you been sorted into? Go Gryffindor!!!
2. List your favorite double-point needle brands, including size and length. Or would you prefer circulars? I haven't tried enough to have a favorite but the only ones I have are Clover's bamboo dpn in size 6 and 7.
3. Would you like to try a new brand needle? If so, which brand? Size? Length? Lately, I've been eyeing the nickel-plated dpn's from :) I've heard great things about them. I guess I'd like whatever size and length would go best with the pattern that you send me. :)
4. If you are a RAVENCLAW, do you prefer the colors in the film or the book? Do you have a strong preference? Again. GO GRYFFINDOR!!!!
5. Do you have any allergies? I'm allergic to Cats, rabbits, small animal dander, dust and pollen. :) hehe...
6. If you are swapping scarves - what is your desired length for the pattern? This will help your partner find the pattern that is just right for you and buy yarn accordingly. Ok...just for kicks instead of scarf size. I'll just say I fit into a size 7 shoe. :)

"Fall Into Autumn" Dishcloth Swap Questionare

1. Do you knit or crochet? How long have you been doing it? I started knitting this year in July and have been obsessed ever since.

2. Have you made dishcloths before? Do you use them yourself, give them as gifts, or both? I've only made three so far. One I have kept for myself and two have been gifts.

3. What's your favorite cotton to make cloths from? What cotton would you like to try that you haven't before ? So far my favorite has been Sugar n Cream. I've heard lots of good things about Peaches n Cream. I'm open to trying any new type of yarn since I'm still new to the wonders and beauty of YARN.

4. If you knit, do you prefer circular or straight needles? For all, do you prefer wooden, metal, or plastic needles? So far I've used mostly straight bamboo. I'd like to try some nice wooden ones. I have one pair of circular Addi's and they are nice so metal is not out of the question either.

5. What are your favorite colors? Any colors you don't like much? My favorite colors are maroon, pink, blue, and purple. (not necessarily together) I'm not a fan of pukey greens. I like green but not the brownish green that makes me think of gross stuff. hehe

6. What do you like best about Autumn? I live in Florida so it's the start of relief from the heat. I like hurricane days when we don't have school but it doesn't rain a drop. :)

7. Pies: Pumpkin? Apple? Pecan? All of em? or No Thanks! I love Pecan pie...after all the years of telling my father that it's GROSS!! I now am a big fan. I also like pumpkin pie and cherry. I should just say all of them.

8. When you were a kid, were you the one who couldn't wait to get started with school , or the one who overslept on the 1st day? I couldn't wait to get started with school. As a teacher I still get that way. I like getting back to a routine. It's more the second month where I end up sleeping in.

9. Do you celebrate Halloween? (The real key here guys is especially knowing if you have an aversion to the holiday or little goodies/decorations associated with it, given the timeframe of the swap) I'm not a huge fan of Halloween but that doesn't mean I don't like it. I mainly don't like dressing up. I love candy though especially A Bit of Honey's!!

10. If you had to choose just 3 edible 'goodies' to eat for a full year, what 3 would you choose? Chocolate, Chicken, and Pineapple. There's a variety. But candy related Twix, Bit of Honey's, and Rolos. YUMMY!!

11. Do you have any pets? Kids? Husbands who seem like kids? ;) I have a live in boyfriend and a golden retriever and a black lab, which are our kids.

12. If you were to describe a particular yarn that shares traits of your personality, what would it be and why? A flexible, dependable, sturdy yarn that feels soft once you start using it.

13. Do you use your cloths mostly for dishcloths, or as facecloths? I have only started using the one I knit up as a dishcloth. I'd like to use them for both when I get some more around my house.

14. Favorite Fall Holiday: Halloween or Thanksgiving and why? (Feel free to share another fall memory if you do not celebrate either of these holidays) Thanksgiving because I love when the family gets together and eats, plays games, and watches some football. The food is always the best too. Can't beat a turkey dinner.

15. Do you have any allergies or aversions your pal should know about? I'm allergic to cats, rabbits, and small animal dander.

Dogs on Thursday!! and weekend stuff.

Guess what?? It's Thursday and I remembered Dogs today!! Lie is busy so this is going to be short. :)

Here's a video of my Jackjack and a bit of Abby swimming in my old landlord's pool. This is back when he was hesitant about water but just wanted to join Abby a true water dog with her fun. :) They are the cutest pups. :)

This weekend is going to be a little crazy. Starting today I'll be babysitting two little girls while their parents are out of town. They happen to be my nephew, Crazy Boy's friends so he will no doubt want to spend time over the house. I'll have the girls until Tuesday afternoon. I'm hoping to get all the dishcloths for my co-workers knocked out. I want to start learning how to make socks next week so I really want to get done with these. I also need to start making stuff for my Pay It Forward. I have the ideas I just need to go get the supplies. With all the moving stuff it's been tough to make time for my crafts. Only short bursts here and there.

Hope everyone is having a great day. I'm super excited that the HSKS 3 swap is starting!! It's my first official swap that has started that I've joined. If you notice there has been a couple of buttons pop up over the last week. All these cool KALs and swaps are just too fun to pass up. :)

Happy Knitting!!!

All I would like to do after a weekend of sleeping and two days of having to be at work early...has been to sleep/rest. This afternoon is the first afternoon i don't have anything I HAVE to do. It's a nice feeling. I know I should go home and unpack more boxes and put up stuff on the walls but what I want to do and is more likely is to sit and watch the tv with cable that is going to be put in this afternoon. I want to veg and do nothing. I'll make dinner and I'll make sure Special K gets fed and when he gets home gets some relax time. (this is only to make my being lazy justifiable)

Work has been crazy with getting everyone set up and the server guy adding to my plate. Not like my plate at work isn't PACKED full of stuff but he keeps blind siding me with more. I have about ten minutes left of work and yes I'm using it to blog but I think 10 min out of the mess of stuff I've done today is good.

Have a great day!!!

I also joined my second swap today. HSKS 3!! I'm super excited about this one too. I love Harry Potter so it's going to be FUN FUN FUN!!

I've also gotten into some Knit A-Longs. KAL You can check out the links from the buttons on the side. Stay tuned for my KAL projects.

I'm still trying to knit my co-workers a little back to school gift even though we are on the second week of school. I've changed it from the candy bags to Paw Print Dishcloths. I'm almost done with my first one and they knit up fast. This decision was made when I decided to give the bags to my niece and nephews. :)

Happy Knitting!!!

There is a swap that I'm registering for....I'm especially excited since I've just discovered the joys of knitting up dishcloths so it's perfect timing that a dishcloth swap has come around.

An FO during a crazy weekend.

During all the moving and craziness. I managed to cast on and bind off a dishcloth.
It's my second one and I'm better at knitting now. I was impressed with how quickly it knit up. I got the pattern from this book I picked up a while ago at Jo-Ann Fabrics.

I used Sugar n Cream yarn which I've quickly fallen in love with. to exhausted and have a busy Monday ahead.

Pay It Forward

I only had 4 people enter my pay it forward...So...I feel bad putting only 4 names in the hat and picking out 3 so I'm going to just do all 4.

Paula from Basset Kniter.
Amanda from NH Knitting mama
Melanie from Tea Leaves
Jane or Grammieknits.

So if you read my blog email me with your snail mail address and I'll have your gift out in the next month. I just moved so I need to get my crafting stuff together and figure out what I'm going to make you. :) I'll email you back if I get the email.

Thank you. Hope you enjoy what I make you.

Holly over at HollYarns is running a contest. Wanna Win some Yarn. Everyone should go over and check out the contest. She lives in San Fran and being an old haunt of mine I like to read about her adventures there.

Hope everyone is having a good sunday. My reason for getting on this early was to look for a recipe to make for breakfast with the limited ingredients we have at the new house...but I of course had to blog read after I was done. Not that I found anything I really want to make for breakfast. :) After breakfast I'm giving myself the morning off and plan on relaxing until noon and knitting a bit. Then I'll finish all the cleaning we have to do. :) Yes, Procrastination.

Today has been a very LOOOONG day. We got most stuff moved last night and got to sleep here at the new place for the first time. It was great. :) A house!!! after being in an apt for so long it's nice to have a house. I woke up early and finished painting the kitchen and then we moved the almost the last of our stuff out of the apt. We spent most the day just unpacking and picking up furniture that our friends have given us and traded us. We are on a tight budget right now so it has been much appreciated.

I'm sitting on the couch knitting a dishcloth. It's actually my first one for myself but I figured it would be nice to have one. :) Special K is making dinner and just ran out for bread. I'm hoping to eat, drink, knit and sleep the rest of the night. More unpacking and getting cleaning up the apt tomorrow.

Have a great Saturday!!

Dogs on Thursday

I joined Dogs on Thursday about a month ago and I finally have a post. I promise I'll have to get on it and post more often on Thrusdays.

So...Jackjack wanted to help paint the kitchen cabinets so we let him. :)

He kind of looks like a skunk. :) I've gotten a few funny looks when I walked him.

Just for a cute face. :) Here's Abbs.

Work, work...paint paint...bark bark. :)

So...the first week back with these students have been hectic and crazy. I've been extremely tired at the end of the day and ready to SLEEP. I've also started coaching girls volleyball so that has been fun as well. Monday and Wed Special K and I painted the kitchen cabinets at our new house. I wanted to paint over the nasty dark grey before we moved in. It looks great so far. I picked a very subtle bluish white color called celestial glow. It's pretty much white. After we finished the cabinets, Special K looked around and said that he wants to paint the rest. :) I smiled and said that would be great. I have open house at school tonight so he might go over and paint a coat while I'm there. I hope he does because I'd love to move into a house that is all painted and ready to go.

I got added to Knitting Blogs today so welcome to those who are just coming to check out my blog for the first time. I'm in a teaching/moving frenzy right now so there is little knitting going on but when I can steal away and knit a few rounds. :) Thanks for reading my blog and hope that you enjoy the creations I made.

Nancy @ the jersey shore...I'll find out if you can order the project bag. I'll call them when I get a moment. I love the's perfect for the projects I'm making right now...Mandy's Candy Bags.

Happy Knitting....

FO, Stitch 'n Pitch

The first Mandy's Candy bag is done. It was a fun knit. I didn't make it too long and I kind of messed up a bit with the bottom but it looks great and when I finished it I thought maybe it's a bit too big to make a bunch before next Friday. Sammy said she'd want this one . So I told her after I take a pic to put up here I'd fill it with Candy and give it to her on the first day of school. She's going into 6th grade and will have both my sister/her mom and I as teachers. :)We went to the Stitch 'n Pitch tonight and it was a lot of fun. I didn't take my camera because it's huge and I already had enough to carry. Fleas and I only sat for a little bit with all the stitcher. We had only gotten 4 tickets to the actual Stitch 'n Pitch and my sister CZbrats who's husband works at Tropicana had gotten the other 3 so we really didn't have enough room to sit with all of them. It was nice seeing those I knew from Needles and Knobs.

This is all the loot I got from the game. While at the game I worked on my second Candy Bag. I think it's coming along well. I modified the pattern so it will be smaller so I can try to make more of them before the end of our first week back. I guess I'm shooting for a great job at our first week present. :) "WE SURVIVED" I hope at least we survive this coming week.

Sammy and I also both bought this cute little bag from The Circular Solution in Lakeland, FL who were there. It's a small bag to keep a small project in. We both got the pick Breast Cancer one too. I think they are just so cute and I already put the Candy Bag that I'm working on in it.
Well, I'm off to bed. It's getting late and I have a long day ahead of me tomorrow. I was to finish this candy bag and hopefully get a bit into another one. I also want to try to put a coat of primer on the kitchen cabinets at the new place. Lots to do and only 24 hrs in a day. :) Have a great night.

Happy Knitting.

Weekend without Special K

Special K flew up to Ohio today to be in a wedding of a friend. I miss him already. He left this morning and he'll be back sunday night but it's the first time I'm the one left behind not the one leaving....It's sad watching him go. :(

I spent the afternoon and early evening over at my sister, CZbrats house. I worked on some knitting and just hung out. It's been a crazy day with the network being down at work and us having some online training we had to do....Lesson Plans to be turned in and PowerPoints to be made. :) It was nice just chilling over there with no stress. We went out to dinner for my nephew Surfer Boy's going off to college dinner. He's only going over to Orlando but we just wanted to give him a little send off. He seems excited and his parents seem a little sad but they will all be ok.

Tomorrow I was planning on painting the cabinets in the kitchen at the new house since we can't move in until next Friday even though we have the key but I don't know if I'm going to. I really need to work on my lesson plans a bit more and finish up those PowerPoints too. I just plan to sleep late and wake up when I do and whatever motivates me I'll do. :)

Tomorrow night is Stitch 'n Pitch!!! I can't wait. I won't talk too much about it because hey this isn't my knitting blog but it's stitching/knitting at the baseball game. If you want to read more about it head over to Barknknit. :)

Ok...everyone have a great weekend. I'm going to be missing my beau very much and happy to see him on sunday.

Stitch n Pitch!!

I picked up my tickets for this Saturday's Stitch 'n Pitch at Tropicana in St. Pete, FL. :) My niece Sammy wanted to come with me because she's started creating her own knitting pieces. Naturally if she's coming then my sister, and Simon Says are coming too. :) The four of us are heading to the game so I'm super excited to meet all the knitters and non-knitters attending.

I picked up some more Sugar 'n Cream yarn to knit up the Mandy's Candy bags for my fellow teachers. I'm going to try to make at least 10 but we'll see I'm hoping to just get 5 done for a start... I'm not sure how fast they'll knit up. I'm crazy ambitious with this idea but I just think it would be a great back to school present.

Hope everyone is having a great week. I feel like I've gotten so much done with getting back to school and packing up. I feel great. I'm now off to knit in 5 min. :) I'm going to get settled in my living room and knit as long as I can. The dogs are walked...I can just relax.

Happy Knitting.

I'm super busy with getting my classroom ready and packing up the house that I haven't knit more than 20 minutes in the last two days. I miss it but just don't seem to have time to just sit right now... Hopefully the weekend will bring a break or not who knows.

I found out about a contest on Golden Purl's site you should head over and check it out. I love all these contests and will have to have one when my blog turns 6 months. :) Right now we are almost at the month mark. Crazy to think I've been knitting and blogging about it for almost a month. :) If I had time right now I'd say I'd have a one month blog contest but that's just not going to happen. ;)

Keep knittin.

Mandy's Candy Bag.

I've been looking at the pattern for Mandy's Candy Bag and wanting to knit it but wasn't sure who I wanted to knit it for. She's also doing a contest that ends soon so go check it out.

So...I'm working on my classroom at work and chatting with my fellow teachers every once in a while when they stop by and I realized it would be a GREAT back to school present for them. I don't know if I can make 8 before Monday but I guess I can at least try to make them by the end of the next week. :) I need to get some size 6 dpns because I only have 7s and I made the cell phone case for Flower Girl on 7s and it was bigger than it was supposed to be. I improvised and it came out ok but I'd like to get some size 6s. I have to wait until Pay Day though. :) I've spent my knitting budget for this one. :) So...I'm probably going to start them on Wed. This along with packing up my house and maybe moving this weekend is going to be interesting. I'm not promising anything but I'm hoping to at least get one done. :)

Oh and I finished both the beer cozi and cell phone case for Flower Girl and yes forgot to take a pictures. I took some quickly on my way to her party on my cellphone but haven't gotten them here yet. :) I'll work on that. They came out pretty good. For my first time using dpn I was impressed how fun it was to watch it go round. :)

Pay It Forward

I got picked on Plain Jane Creations for her Pay It Forward promise. I'm very excited. This will actually be my first package from anyone in the knitting blog world. I'm still nervous to enter any swaps but plan on it once I get settled into my new house. You can still enter my Pay It Forward but I'm going to close it on August 20th and pick that day. :)

I hope everyone is having a great weekend. I think today has been the best day!! I only got to knit so far for about 30 min. I'm trying to finish Flower Girl's cellphone case. Special K and I went swimming in our landlords pool, went to the driving range(my first time), and he helped me put some stuff up in my classroom. It's been a GREAT day... :)

Have a great Saturday!!!

Special K hat and more yarn... :)

My nephew Surfer Boy came with me on a yarn run today. His mom is recovering from surgery so I figured it would be nice for him tag along and get some yarn for the hat he wants. He wants a hat similar to the one I'm working on for Special K but with bigger ribs. I have been doing pretty good on my first attempt at a hat.
Audrey at Needles and Knobs says it's wonderful . She said the stretching is ok and will not be too noticable. I'm glad I showed it to her. She also told me about the needle stops...good idea. :) I have about 9 inches left to knit before the decrease.

While we were at Needles and Knobs we picked up some nice green yarn for Surfer Boy's hat. I didn't get a picture but it's Cascade Superwash in Sage.

Today, I realized that my niece Flower Girl's birthday is this Saturday. She turns the big 2-1. Yes, I am young yet have a niece that is only 21. She actually is only 6 yrs younger than me. We used to fight like sisters but have been getting along much better in our older ages. I realized if I'm going to give her a present I better get knitting. I haven't decided between beer cozies or a cellphone case. I might try to knock out both but we'll see. While out on my yarn run we stopped at Jo-Ann Fabrics and got some Sugar 'n Cream yarn. :) I couldn't decide on colors and I figured I can make some dishcloths out of it as well so I bought five skeins. :) I am realizing that my stash is growing and started to put all of the new yarn into ziploc bags to keep as much dog hair off of them as possible. I also bought some darning needles. What can I say???

New header!!!

I added a new header to my site. It's my two cute puppies!! I seriously need to get out of the house and head to the school supply store and into my classroom. Hope you like the header....I need to get a picture of them and some yarn...they aren't allowed any where near my needles since Jackjack would soon eat them. :)

I'm also going to stop by Needles and Knobs and I'll let you know how that goes. :)

Getting ready for school.

Yes, I know I've been mentioning that schools starting soon. Two weeks from yesterday to be exact the little children are going to be entering the classroom. Next week us teachers officially go back to school. I've been back already for two weeks working on this program we bought. The program which is a student information systems for us with a grade book and some websites will be a great step forward for our school. It also hasn't been the easiest thing to organize and get up and running for my sister, Fleas and me. We've needed other peoples help for information and half this stuff isn't our job anyway....but as it always happens we get to do the work. This has left me little time to work on my classroom...well, I haven't really wanted to stay at school all day when I'm not really getting paid to. :) I really want to enjoy my last free week of vacation. Next week I have to be there most the day and am getting paid to. The following week it's teaching time so that's it....Summer is over.

I still haven't packed a single box in our apartment for our big move. Special K and I have discussed that this weekend is all packing and maybe one fun outing. :) I want to see Bourne Ultimatum!! He's going to be up in Ohio next weekend for a wedding and then the following weekend on the 25th we move into the new house. EXCITING!!! But I really need to jump start the packing bit.

Monday, August 6, 2007

Last night while watching the baseball game, I cast on the hat for Special K. It's my first knitting in the round experience and I think I started out pretty good. I made one mess up on the second row but you can't really tell. I concentrated really hard on not twisting the stitches on the circular needles since that seemed to be everyone first comment when I told them I wanted to knit on them. I'm doing a patter of ribbing and I think between my knit stitches and purl stitches there seems to be a little bit of a loose edge. I was hoping to show it to the Audrey at Needles and Knobs but it's closed on monday. I only realized this after I showed up to show her. :) And yes if you notice I got her name off the newspaper article hanging on the window of the shop. I'm going to stop by tomorrow and show her. I might frog it and start over, we'll see. I'll take pictures of it tomorrow and post them.

On my way home I stopped by the library and checked out Stitch 'n Bitch, the knitter's handbook. I figured checking books out is a good way to keep my budget for actual yarn and needles. If I think it's a book I need to keep in my collection then I'll buy it. I'm finally trying to be financially savvy.

I also signed up for Ravelry today. Everyone's doing it....I also figure in the almost a month that I've been knitting I'm already got a bit of a stash started. It's not much but by the time I get my invite...since I'm like a billionth on the list then I'll have more projects and a bigger yarn stash to add. to do some reading before bed. I've got to work on my classroom tomorrow so I won't get much knitting done until I get home in the afternoon and do laundry.

LYSs, FOs, and a new knitter!!!

To start off I wanted to show you my CAP's Magic Scarf FO.. :) I like it but it's pretty short so I'm probably going to give it to Lil L who showed interest. :)

So...Saturday, as I have for the last three Saturday's, I headed over to a LYS, Stitchworm for some free instructions. Lil L came with me and she was again the superstar. :)

She actually started a pattern for a shaw/half sweater thing...not sure what it's called right now. Anyway, I got her some new needles and 3 skeins of some pretty yarn. She made her first swatch...I don't think she really understood what gauge was but she did good. We both learned how to make holes and I learned how to increase and decrease because I want to make a hat for Special K.

My friend D came along this time too. We went to see the Simpson Movie with her on friday night and another friend C which doesn't seem to want to learn to knit but her loss right?? I was talking all about knitting and how much fun I've been having and D thought it would be fun to come with. She is super creative and does all kinds of fun mosaic stuff. D did good...she needed a bit of help getting started but after that she had fun. They got her started with some yarn and needles so she can work on it for the next couple weeks until she can return. (She is a jet-setter for the next couple weekends. )
I was having a bit of a moment this saturday. I showed up with no pattern but I knew I wanted to knit it in the round... :) I know very specific but I really want to learn. I mentioned this to Ricky, knitting instructor, who tried to find a pattern in the store to help me out but we couldn't find one for knitting a hat in the round. I thought about just getting some circular needles and just making up as a go but for some reason they weren't having it and I needed to get Lil L back home because she was heading to Orlando with a friend and her family. I was a little disappointed when I got home so I searched the internet and found a pattern at Mind's Eye Yarns that Special K liked so I had DIRECTION!!! We headed out to the beach to meet up with some friends and I slyly mentioned...we'd be passing by the other LYS Needles and Knobs.. :) Special K agreed since the hat is for him and we went in...Yes...let me repeat Special K entered a yarn store with me. :) I was happy. He just sat on the couch and said yes that one for the yarn...but it was great. He was there with me. The lady there was so great...she's super nice and energetic. I really like her...I again forgot to ask her name...ugh. Anyway she got me set up with some Addi Turbo's size 7 circular needles, double points size 7, and some black feathered yarn...I also grabbed some sale yarn that I had eyed last time I was in. :) When I got home after the beach I decided not to start the hat yet but to knit up some of the dishcloth yarn I got last week for my sister. She had surgery yesterday and I wanted to bring a gift with me today when I visited her at home. I forgot to take a picture before I wrapped it up but its a pattern I made up with stockinette and garter stitch. I like it and she seemed pleased with it even through her pain today. I made a little card with one of my staps to go with it. ;)
Well...Special K is out watching the Cubs game and I'm going to go hang with him a bit. I think I'll cast on the hat tomorrow so I can give him the quality time I think he's asking for. He's being as supportive as he can with my knitting and I know he loves that I'm creating things but I think sometimes he just wants me to pay attention to I'm off to give him that time. I know this has been a long post...but I hope you've enjoyed the pictures. :)

Deleted a blog... I'm down to two blogs... I had a conversation today with my brother and he said it's hard keeping up with my blogs so I should condense them. I said OK. So, I deleted the dog blog and now I'm sticking to this one which will have some stuff about my pups and my knitting blog, Bark n Knit which will also have dog stuff so I'm covered. :) I think it was a great suggestion and it might help people out if they do decide to read these. This one is mostly going to be about non-crafting stuff and of course the other one about crafting stuff. I can't guarantee that they won't be mixed a bit but I don't really want to put all of this on one because some people don't care about my crafts and I know they care about my life..hehehe and some don't really care about too much of my life and just want to see my crafts. :) yeah... a perfect world I'd just have one. :) I know. Thanks for the support.

Pay It Forward.

Not sure how many people really read this blog but I really wanted to be a part of this Pay It Forward I found on Plain Jane Creations. I want to participate so if you lurk around but don't comment please comment for this one. :) So, the rules go...

I will send a handmade gift to 3 random people who leave a comment on my blog requesting to join this Pay It Forward exchange. I don’t know what that gift will be yet and you may not receive it tomorrow or next week, but you will receive it within 365 days, that is my promise! The only thing you have to do if you like, is in return pay it forward by making the same promise on your blog.

I probably won't close out until I get at least a couple replies. Not knowing if I'll even get three I want to have an opportunity to be open about this. Thanks.

Ginups....and rain rain go away....come back another day.

So...this is a two part post. First off...I grew up in Panama for those who don't already know this...and Panama of course is in Central America and is a rain forest and well has different fruit from up here. When I was little, one of my favorite seasons was Ginup there was always street vendors in selling flowers, mangos, or whatever else was in season. I always knew ginup season was around when the men/women/children were holding up big bags of green fruits called ginups....or as I discovered yesterday at Publix....Mamocillos is what they are called in the Dominican Republic and I was so excited to find out that they are being imported to Publix....

Yesterday as I was heading home from browsing around Jo-Ann Fabrics(after I updated my registration on my suv which was a bit late) and I was heading back home I decided to just go into the Publix that isn't my local one but maybe one of the closer ones to our new house. I got all the necessities and was getting veggies and fruits and I saw out of the corner of my eye a familiar looking fruit from long ago. I haven't been back to Panama since 99 so you can see it's been a while. I took a double take and there amonst the other unsuspecting fruit was the ginup or mamoncillo....oh how happy was I!!! I grabbed a bunch and as I was heading to the register tried calling my sisters to let them know the amazing thing I just discovered...of course non answered.. :)

So....after dinner last night I pulled out my packet of ginups and showed Special K was they were and how to eat them. At first he was at a loss for how much work they are for little reward but once he started eating them and got a good one he couldn't' stop and we almost finished the bunch. He said they made him feel weird...they kind of dry out your mouth but they are good and we enjoyed it tremendously. :)

So yesterday it rained most the day on and off...and so I was hoping that today would be different but unfortunately it hasn't been but it's been worse. It has rained non-stop since early this morning. I slept in because I thought that it was still dark and I was waiting for it to stop before taking the pups out. It didn't so I just took them out to the backyard since it's was pretty much flooding all around my apt and neighborhood. Jackjack hates to get rained on and was a baby while we were out there. He quickly went potty and just hung out right under the roof. Abigail the craziness that she is decided to find a tennis ball...soaking wet tennis ball and wanted to play. They both were soaking wet when we got back upstairs. Special K called and asked if I'd bring him lunch and as a good girlfriend that I am I picked him and his boss up some Chick-fil-A...MY favorite place and took them lunch in the pouring down rain but that's ok. It was nice to eat lunch with them and now that I know that I have to babysit tonight it's was good getting a chance to hang with him today. Kel and I are going to go to see Hairspray at 3:30 so that should be a fun thing to do in this kind of weather. :) Hope you are all safe and dry. Have a great day. are from my apt. My landlord's backyard and the view from my front steps.

So....I finially finished my t-shirt quilt that I started back in May. I know realize that It was a much bigger project than I probably should have picked for my first quilt but I think it looks great so I'm happy with it. I did most the sewing and putting the blanket together at my landlord's house. I should have taken pictures but I was too busy working away to worry about that. :) But once I finished the blankets with my sisters help and started to actually quilt...I decided to set it up in my apartment. So the pic on the left here is how i worked in my apartment.

I have a direct view of the tv. :) I quilted continuously thru the entire movie of Rent. I love that movie and I could sing and I've seen it so many times that I don't really need to "see" it. So I worked and worked and I think it came out great.
Here is one of the small squares I made. The two quilts are t-shirts from when I was younger. This one right here with the Hawaiian print is from my college years or a lot of my sorority t-shirts from USF. Some are from sports I played like crew and Rugby. :) Yes, I tried both while in school. I did crew for about 3 months but after falling asleep in class from practicing at 6 am Mon-Sat...and having NO social life I quit. Then Rugby was fun until I saw a guy holding the skin around his zygomatic arch in place...EW!!!
I played in I think two tournaments then slowly stopped going to practice because I just didn't want to see my face get smashed. :)
This is a close up view. I machine quilted because two quilts hand quilted was just too much for me to get my head around. It isn't perfect but it has TONS of personality. If you look closely in the background you can see Angel and Collins singing "live in my house, I'll be your shelter just pay me back with one thousand kisses." Did I mention I LOVE that movie. :)

Another pictures of a close up. I used both the back and fronts of many of the shirts. The little squares are from most of the fronts of the shirts. :) I'm really proud of myself for finishing this. I still have matching pillows to make but that will come. I'm done sewing until I move....Yes, I just said it I'm waiting for something to happen before doing something...sorry CAP but I just need a break from sewing...and I want to go back to my knitting. :)

This is the finished picture of my high school quilt. These t-shirts are a lot of beer advertisements but what can i say. There all really just Panama shirts. I grew up there and these are all from when I was there. more thing. So you see that this is a black quilt right?? Yes. And you see my black dog nicely sleeping next to my work station. Now that is the dog that this quilt will be ok with but what I realized while I finished this quilt in my house is that it is a Abby hair MAGNET!!! I should have taken a good pictures of some of the hair that's on the quilt but again...didn't think about it. My poor Abby has really bad skin and right now with the change of weather it's been SUPER bad. She's been eating her skin off and her hair which adds to the shedding in my small apt. I gave her a bath in Oxy Meds shampoo yesterday and I hope it helps. I might even give her another one tomorrow so it calms her skin and slows the shedding. I even stopped while quilting and I brushed them both and got off a LOT of hair that would have ended up on my poor black quilt. For reference of the hair that she's been chewing off I took this picture. This patch of hair was found on the floor in my bathroom. My poor Abigail is just an itchy mess. Ok...enough about my dogs. :) I hope that you've enjoyed seeing my finished quilt. I've put a lot of time into this quilt and I'm really happy with my first attempt at quilting. I think that I will try a smaller quilt next time and do a bit more hand quilting. For now back to my knitting. :)

Crazy Aunt Purl

I posted about her on my regular blog because it's not about knitting but I thought anyone who reads this but not my "life" blog should check it out as well. If you aren't already reading CAP... you should read her latest post.

Will post pictures of my almost finished quilt and some WIP later today or tomorrow. I'm heading back in the living room to work on my quilt some more.

Packing, Moving, and life.(not about knitting)

My favorite knitting blog is Crazy Aunt Purl. She is insightful and just is a great writer. I've been reading her blog for about 3 or 4 months now. Today she posted the post of all post. I can't really begin to explain all the reasons why this post was great but you should read it. I think that it just has effected the way I think about this big move this month. I have 24 days and my life as I've known if for two years is going to change. I think Special K moving in here was a huge thing and it was great and has been great but it wasn't as big as us moving into this house that is OUR home. It's wasn't something that was mine and is now ours. I haven't settled in and made it my house and now we are sharing it. We are both on the lease and we both take ownership of it. I'm so excited about this and despite everyone else thinking it's too soon and that we are crazy...I think it's great. I can't wait to get started making it OUR cozy little home. I know I've been stressed and feel like all I've been doing lately is "WAITING" so when you read this post this will all start to make sense. I hope that it inspires you as well.

Thank you,

The Crazy Dog Lady
