Contest stuff.

I thought this idea was pretty cool. ;) Check out this contest. Don't forget to let her know I sent you!! Pretty Please!!

I'm about 10 posts away from my 100th post. Wow, I can't believe I've posted so many since late July. I'm thinking I should have my first contest then...so keep an eye out for it. Not sure what I'll do yet.

Happy Knitting!!!

Wedding, Travel Knitting, Sock Knitting, FO picture!

So, the weekend of November 10th, my best friend from high school is getting married in Raleigh. I'm really excited about it. She's been dating her fiance forever.. :) I met him for the first time last spring break and I liked him a lot. He's really personable and definitely not as dorky as she has made him out to be. :) I'm a bridesmaid and I've got my dress and I finally picked up shoes and matching purse this weekend. I'm heading to the seamstress right after work to get the dressed hemmed...I know I'm cutting it close...I needed shoes first. I'm working on her present finally too. Yes, I'm a procrastinator... :) But I do have a great idea that includes hand knits(of course). I'm not sure she reads this blog so I won't say more than that but that's not the only thing I'm including. It's going to be a fun basket of stuff let's just say for now. I'll take pictures and share when I'm done and it's been given to her. :)

Ok... Travel Knitting...Since the wedding is in Raleigh that means I'm going to be flying and need to figure out what knitting to bring. I'm thinking that I should stay away from metal needles all together since I read the TSA rules. I'm probably going to bring a sock on bamboo dpns and the fingerless gloves I've been wanting to make for myself. Both use dpns so that should be fine.

I'm casting on today for the Fawkes pattern using my new yarn!! I'm swatching to figure out what needle size to use...I have a US 1 and US 2 Knitpicks circ needles thanks to my football-a-long swap pal. Since I haven't tried using 2 circs or Magic Loop I'm a little nervous about it. I'm going to attempt the Magic Loop method when I figure out which size to use. :) This will not be my travel sock though...since it's going to be on circs that are too long for the guidelines.

What sock will I make then for travel knitting? I'm planning on making the Rainbow Socks using my Regia Yarn in Landscape Fire and make it on bamboo dpns. :) I might have to pick up some dpns in size 1s though. Will have to swatch for that this later this week. :)

Ok...last but not least FO picture of my first pair of SOCKS!!!
They did not knit up the same but not sure if it was me or the yarn...it's ok. I've decided they are going into my sock museum as my first socks. I had a tough time with the second sock's toe. Going to need more practice on that part. I sure do like them though!!

Just a picture!!

I made the skein two balls. They are not even close to the same size but that's ok. I picked this flower from my backyard today. Just thought I'd share.

Happy Knitting.

HSKS #3 Package!!!

My swap pal spoiled me!!! She sent me so much great stuff. Thank you again Mary Catharine! You should go check out her blog. It's a good read and she's got some great pictures.

Ok...swap package!!

She sent me this cute card!!

Here's all the stuff she sent. A skein of yarn from Razzy Tazzy Knits in Gryffinor colorway. It's so squishy and nice!! She sent me a copy of Fawkes sock pattern, which is one I really want to try. A sock kit from Lismore Sheep Yarn, which is very nice wool and a pattern to go with it. She sent me Addi dpn's size 2 and size 6 birch dpns from River John Needle Company, two packets of hot chocolate, beautiful stitch markers, a row counter bracelet from Crimson Orchid, Cards and labels from Jenn's Rather Crafty etsy store.

She sent me these two magazines.

A closer look at the row counter bracelet and stitch markers.

Oh and this awesome bag. I love it. She actually knit me a beautiful Gryffindor bag but due to an unfortunate incident it was felted and her computer fried with water. I'm really happy with the bag she sent me. It's beautiful material and I like this design a lot!!

A close up of the beautiful cards and tags.

Lismore Sheep Yarn

"Gryffindor" yarn from Razzy Tazzy Knits.

And after all that she sent me for the HSKS #3 swap...

she sent my knitting group six skeins of yarn and three sets of needles. :) Mary Catharine ROCKS!!! ;)

I can't tell you how much I love this package!! It's great.

Since we didn't get a chance this weekend will all the gloomy weather to make the yarn swift. I'm off to use Special K's hands as my swift and make a center pull ball out of the Gryffindor yarn so I can make a swatch!! Yes, I'm swatching. I'll take a picture now that my camera has power. :)

Happy Knitting and Swapping!! Thanks for stopping by on this rainy sunday afternoon. Back to Football...GO BUCS!!!

Sharimom's Sunset Video

Finally, the video I promised you on what was it Monday. :) Oops sorry, been a busy week. I edited it a little and added a title and some music. The videographer is Sharimom. The voices are Special K, Sharimom, and some random strangers(those running towards birds). I was sitting on the beach knitting, picture in last post. I cut this video back a couple minutes from when I originally tried to post this. The first minute of sunset is beautiful but if you don't have time go to about a minute in and watch the bird part!! It's so funny!! I've never seen this happen but I guess it happens a lot.

video

Happy Beachn' it!!!

You have NO idea how many times I've tried to upload this. UGH!!! As I type this its still processing and I'm just praying that it finishes and I can share this with you all. :) Yeah it's DONE!!! Here's to posting.

Sharimom's Visit with pictures!!

Sharimom, Special K's mom came to visit a couple weekends back and I kept meaning to post about it. I mentioned it but here's the recap.

First off it was great having her here. We had a great time and it was her first visit to Florida so that was special. She flew in on Friday night and stayed until Monday night. On Saturday, my sisters, their families, and Special K's boss and wife came over and we had a dinner. I wanted my sisters to meet her and they all got along great. The kids had fun especially when we built a fire and had smores...YUMMO!! I don't have any pictures...we were all having too much fun!!

Sunday morning Special K, Sharimom and I went to brunch at the Don Cesar Beach Resort, which is a very nice resort here in St. Petersburg. It's pink and expensive. Special K had won tickets for two and it was our 9 month anniversary...so we decided to take his mom with us. The food was great but the company was even better. :) Here are pictures of us after brunch out on the beach behind the resort. What a cute Special K and Sharimom picture!!

That afternoon we, along with my step-sister Luz, drove down to the outlet mall in Ellenton and shopped. That was fun and we all got some great finds. After we got back we headed back to the beach for some sunset pictures...
I sat on the beach and knit on my sock. It was beautiful and peaceful and I must do this again!! Especially went it gets cooler. :) Evidence of BK, beach knitting. That's Luz relaxing on the blanket with me.

I couldn't upload the video so I'm going to try again later. It was too big to load. Gotta go pick up the girls I'm sitting for or I'd finish it. :)

Have a great day!!

Knitting this weekend will be spent figuring out what my next sock pattern will be and which yarn to use. I might need some help so I'll post on it later if I do. I've done a swatch with one yarn and I'm working on the swatch for the second.

Special K also agreed to help me make the yarn swift this saturday!! I'll take pictures of the process. If it goes well then Sunday I might head to joann's and pick me up a ball winder...since I've gotten three 50% coupons in the last couple days. I'm also thinking of sewing a knitting bag for my Ohio road trip to keep all my projects together. I might get some fabric this weekend or next. 50% is fun!!

Dogs on Thursday!!

These are old pictures of Jackjack...back when we were living in Melbourne, FL and working at an animation studio. I took him to beach with us to watch the shuttle launching in Cape Canaveral. He went to work with me every day so he was a spoiled rotten brat back then. :) Everyone loved him!!

He had and has a great watch me. It's even gotten better but I love this picture because he's just staring right at me!!

These are pictures of Abby when she want on a Road trip with Special K and I last spring break. She did really well on the trip. She only got into a scuffle with one other dog out of the two we visited. She's a great car rider too...Not as good as Jack though but she's learning to settle down.

I just love this shot. It's at my friend's house in Raleigh, NC. Nice big beer for Special K.
Happy Dogs on Thursday!! Hopefully next week I'll get a good video of them or new pictures!!

Swift, balls, and some extra.

So, I really want a ball winder and a swift. I'm getting these boxes of yarn for my Knitting Group and I'd like to make center pull balls so I can give each student their own ball of yarn and a set of needles to work with. I'd also like to spread out what I've got out. The only problem is that I don't want to spend so much money on them. I was looking around and swifts are EXPENSIVE!! I was disappointed until I found this, instructions to make your own swift!! I looked at them and I'm sure Special K and I could figure this out. Looks easy!! So...I'm going to talk to him and see if we can make it. I think his dad or my brother-in-law have everything we need. So...that excited me. I found some ideas on how to make a ball winder out of kids toys but we'll see. I'm going to start with the swift and then we'll figure out a ball winder.

For now I've been working on making center pull balls with a paper towel roll. Works great. I got the instructions from knits with balls. I used the knittinghelp.com technique and it was ok but I like the way these work up better.

Knitting news...I've been working on my dishcloth for my swap pal. I think I should have it done tonight. My travel knitting has been my sock and I'm almost done with the pair so I can start a new sock!! I'm not sure which pattern I'm going to try but I really want to try knitting them using 1 circular needle. I got two from my football-a-long swap pal and really have been wanting to try them. I also want to try a sock with a pattern thats more than stockinette. No cables yet though. On the cable front I think for my trip to Ohio I'd like to knit up some fingerless gloves. I've been looking at some great patterns. When I make a decision on post which one. :)

I've been lost in the world of Ravelry lately and haven't been posting on my blog as much about my knitting. I'll try to keep up with blogging since I love to blog!! :) Well...I'm off to catch up on last weeks greys and fold clothes. :) FUN FUN FUN!!!

Thank you so much for those of you who have been sending yarn by the way!! I'm sending individual thank yous but couldn't hurt for a shout out on here too. :) I'll post pictures and links to who sent them later this week. My camera is not working with me today...

Happy Knitting!!!

PS..I almost forget. Last but not by any means least sharimom, Special K's mom, sent me Crazy Aunt Purl's book to read and some great video of us at the beach. I'll upload the video after laundry and Grey's. :) THANK YOU sharimom!!

"Fall Into Autumn" Dishcloth Swap - Monday Topic #6

How was your experience in the exchange? Did you enjoy the folks you met? Did you just love the bag you received? Please share any thoughts, criticism, and things you loved!

This has been a fun swap. Both swap pals have been great but I haven't really gotten to know them all that well. I'm hoping to stay in touch after the swap ends and I get to know who they are. I accidentally signed my name to an email to my downstream pal and she's been great. I'm not sure she has checked me out yet but oh well. I'm excited to get my package and I'm almost done with my dishcloth so I can send mine out. :) I guess I can't really do much criticism yet. :) I've loved how this has been organized and I like the Monday topics. Way to go!!

Well...happy Swapping.

"Fall Into Autumn" Dishcloth Swap Monday Topic Catch up!

Ok...this is going to be two Monday topics in one because I've been super busy and didn't get around to taking pictures last week. :)

Last Monday was:
In many a swap we get asked to flash our stash of yarn. However, we hardly ever (might even venture to say never) get asked to show off our needles, hooks, notions, and other tools of the trade.

For this one I still don't have time to pull everything together but here's my needles waiting place. :) All but the circs. Notice Special K's drumsticks. :)
This Monday's topic:
Now that it is getting cooler here, it makes me think of apple picking and hay rides. Are you the type that likes to go to participate in all the fall festivities like apple picking, pumpkins, decorating for the fall, hay rides, baking fall goodies, etc. or do you just sit and count the days till Thanksgiving/Christmas/Hanukkah?

Again, living in Florida we don't have a lot of fall activities but I do enjoy the pumpkin patches and carving!! I also like to bake more in the cooler months. This year I'm counting down to Thanksgiving because we are planning to drive up to Ohio...loads of knitting on the road time!! Special K's mom was just down for the weekend and I'm excited to see her again too. :)

Happy Knitting!!!

PS. I went yarn shopping and got all the stuff I need to send off the last two packages. Ones heading out by owl tomorrow and the other is still awaiting the dishcloth to get off the needles which will be soon!!

Trick or Treat!

Trick or Treat!
Kati from Q&K tagged me with a Halloween treat. This is the first time I've been tagged by anyone so I'm excited!!

"Apparently, it started with Hootin’ Anni. She's been trick-n-treating with Halloween good wishes this month by giving out Halloween treats each day on her blog. Anni’s asking the recipients to “pay it forward”! So… IF you have received this treat, via a comment left by me on your blog - then please save the image to your server, and then pass the treat on to friends, acquaintances, or strangers … as you see fit! Please don’t forget to let everyone know that it originated with Anni and then provide a link to her blog! Thanks!" Kati said. :)

So. I'm going to tag Ally from Knittin' Baby and Patricia from Pischi Days. There are like seven more I'd like to tag but we are heading out to brunch and just picked two. :) Have a great Sunday!!

PS.
I'll give an update later when I have more time but just to let you know we've been having a great time with Special K's mom in town.

Dogs on Thursdays!!!!

This weekend while Special K was hard at work in our back yard, his father came over and brought with him Lucy, the little dog you see in the picture. The three dogs ran around and played for awhile but in the end all they wanted to do was lay in the sand and veg. :)
Lucy is cute but scared of the clicking sound the camera makes. :) She's so tiny.

Here's a picture of the walkway Special K made to go from our back door to the shed that holds our washer and dryer.

And here's the fun fire pit he build us before it gets a little cooler. :) But as he says it never gets cold here. He got some different bricks from a friend he's going to use for it...so I guess tomorrow before his mom gets here he's going to rebuild it. :)Our grass is close to non-existent so we are going to work on that but we don't own the house but rent so we don't want to spend too much money putting in grass.

Happy Dogs on Thursdays!!

And a big thank you for those who are helping out my knitting group! As of right now I still could use stuff if anyone is interested!

Knitting Group!! Just approved!! Help if you can!!

So, I've been thinking about starting a knitting group at my school for awhile. My niece Surfer Girl has sparked interests with the rest of the girls and so they have been asking. I spoke with the administration and they said that would be great!! I'm thinking that now I want to get a collection of yarn and needles to teach them first before they decide on a pattern or project. I haven't been knitting for very long so I don't have many needles that I don't actively use and much extra yarn scraps. So here's where you, the knitting community can help me!! If you have any scraps of yarn or needles that you no longer want or use and would like to donate to my knitting group at school please email me at gnatchat at gmail dot com. If you donate to our group we will make you something and send it to you. May take a while for it to get to you but I promise that it will get there and be made by a student!

Thank you for any help!!

Quick update

I won a contest over at KnitMap.com. YEAH!! It looks like a great prize!! If you haven't already you should check the site out. Add your local yarn shop or leave a comment.

I spent yesterday afternoon hanging out with my step-sister Luz, and Surfer Girl. We sat around and knit. We had a great time. Luz wanted to learn how so I taught her to cast on and knit. She's doing pretty good.

Yesterday morning and today has been spent working on the house because Special K's mom will be here next weekend. Special K did wonders on our front yard and is working on the backyard today. I'm helping and doing some other stuff around the house as well. Gotta get back to it!!

Happy Knitting!!

RAVELRY!!

I got my invite tonight!! Yeah!!! I'm barknknit. Find me!!

On a little side note, I was a bit upset when I got my invite...yes, what I have been waiting for all day... I was upset because Special K and I had a wee bit of an argument and put me in a bad mood. He told me I got the invite when he checked the computer and I was excited but when I started to get on Ravelry I was so bummed about not really "communicating" with Special K that I just couldn't. I stepped away and tried to watch Grey's which I thought would help but didn't. The only thing that did was finally "communicating" with him and getting all my upsetness(that is a word spell check!) out. We really didn't argue about anything big but I got upset and emotional. I am a female and I know I can be that way sometimes.

Anyway, after talking to him and finishing Grey's...hey it was a good one...I got on and started playing around. I like what I'm seeing so far!!! I'll give you another update tomorrow but now it's midnight and need to sleep or will be tired tomorrow. Not that I won't be already. :)

HAPPY KNITTING!!!

Healthy Paws

Ok, so I picked up a big bag of Nature's Variety Prairie in Venison and Millet Medley. I talked to the lady for a while and she was very knowledgeable in holistic and natural remedies. I'm going to keep them on this food for three or four weeks, well, until the bag is empty then we are going to switch to another protein source. Special K picked up a can of pumpkin so we can avoid messy poops when we switch cold turkey.

I got home today and gave both the pups baths. Abby got a bath with the Head and shoulders and Jackjack got one using his Avocado shampoo. She is a little itchy but I know nothing is an instant solution. I do love when my pups are CLEAN though. I love to cuddle them more and put my nose in their fur. Is that strange?? :)

Well...there's today's update. I'll keep you posted.

We have a softball game tonight at 9pm and it's POURING down rain. A buddy just got there it's 8pm and they are trying to wait out the rain before calling the games. I'm kind of hoping we get canceled so I can sit and watch my Thursday night shows and knit. Is that selfish??

I asked some questions but not expecting answers. :)

This blog gets some focus!

Ok...so I'm really not sure what to do with this blog. I've been racking my brain. Barknknit has readers and a concept. I feel I post all the stuff I want to share on there. I need to focus more on this blog because I feel it's just me talking about nothing most the time. I don't want to delete it yet because I like having this blog.

So for now I'm going to talk about Abby's skin. It's an on going saga and it will at least keep me posting on here for now. I'll include some other stuff but this is important.

Her skin....It's been a mess. She's itchy and her skin is bad. We've seen the vet and they say that we should do an allergy test and put her on allergy shots. I'm not interested in that right now. It's not in our budget. Special K talked to his boss and he recommended us going to this place called Healthy Paws. They are known to help with skin allergies and they have a different concept than most people about dog food. You mostly hear that you should keep your dog on one food and find a food that works but the people at Healthy Paws think that you should switch your dogs food so that they can not develop an allergy. A friend also recommended that we use Head and Shoulders to bath her.

So here's my challenge for Abigail's skin from now until December 31st :
1. We are going to switch her food every bag we buy.
2. Change her shampoo from her doggie shampoo to plain old Head and Shoulders

I'll take pictures of her skin so I can share the process with you and I'll let you know what foods I'm trying.

Stay tuned for before challenge pictures.

Dogs on Thursday!!

So, I love uploading video of my dogs. I'm going to have to get some more footage of them. I found this video from last year when I was training the pups all the time. I need to get back into the training/dog parking routine. Before you watch this video, Jackjack's limp is from early onset of arthritis caused by the accident he had with a car. He shattered his front elbow and has four pins in it. You would never know by this video the craziness we had been through to get him where he was in this video. His limp has completely gone away and I have him on some joint supplement so it doesn't return. When he swims and runs too much he will be VERY sore for a couple days. He loves when we train so I kept training with him.

Abby is a crazy silly girl and loves to train. I've always wanted to get her into agility and some day when her skin gets better and she doesn't stop to itch I might try it. :) Have fun watching my silly dogs. No great music this time....just me and my commands and silly praises.

Happy Dogs on Thursday!!!!

PS...under 1000 on the Ravelry waiting list. I can't wait. Hope it's today!!!!!!!

We are at the start of an important series!! GO CUBS!!!!! I've been a fan for over 10 years so I'm super excited we won the NL Central now we just need to make it to the World Series!!! I'll be sleeping during tonights game but I already have Special K on alert to WAKE ME up if we win!!

On a knitting note, I'm so close to a Ravelry invite it's killing me. :) I organized my office and my stash today but refrained from taking pictures of it all yet. I had to organize first, take pictures tomorrow. ;)

I actually got to get some knitting in today so that was wonderful!! I cast on for a dishcloth and a snuggly. I even got a chance to take my pups to the dog park. Now I'm exhausted and ready for bed.

Happy Knitting!! GO CUBS!!!

Pink for October.

I saw this on Paula at Bassett Knitter's blog and since it's near and dear to my heart I wanted to join in. My mother Carmen passed away from breast cancer on January 8th, 1987. For those of you who don't know my birthday date, I was 6 years old. I was very young and remember little about her but I have four lovely sister's who fill in some of the info I don't remember. My sister's are older than me and have helped me in lots of ways and when I needed a mom. Please go check out the site.

I'm off to bed. Patiently waiting for my ravelry invite(less than 2000 to go) and getting NO knitting done.

"Fall into Autumn" Dishcloth - Monday Topic #4

How about you? Are there any recipes you especially enjoy having in the Fall? Any foods that are seasonal that you especially enjoy? Feel free to share recipes with us too!

When it starts to cool off, I like to drink more tea in the evenings. I'm a cup a coffee every morning even if it's 100 degrees out but tea is more of a specialty drink for me. I also like to eat more oatmeal. It's my favorite breakfast food but when it's hot I don't tend to eat it as often. A bowl of oatmeal with some brown sugar and banana is just the ticket for a good meal. :)

My favorite recipe for a cold evening is a bowl of white bean chili. I use a pound of ground turkey(I brown it first before putting into chili) instead of the chicken in the recipe but I'll share the recipe that was given to me. My sister Fleas gave me this recipe but I'm not sure who gave it to her. It's one of the dishes I make that I get requests for. :) I like to make some corn muffins as a side.

Here's the PDF version whitechili. If you can't get it please let me know and I'll email it to you. It's a great recipe to try and it's really easy.

Happy Fall into Autumn!!

A contest for a good cause and Ravelry!!

Lapdog Creations is having a great contest over at her site. It's her first one so go check it out and it's for a great cause....Doggies!!! There are a couple ways to enter so you have tons of options. I'm planning on knitting a snuggles!!

I guess it's just going to have to get added to my list of things I want to knit. I'm thinking I need to organize all my knitting and crafting items and when I need to complete them. :) I'm thinking a whiteboard in my office would do the trick. Any ideas on how you keep track of what you plan on knitting. Those who have Ravelry...does this have a feature that will help me?? If so please let me know and...check this out...

.... I"M SO CLOSE!!!

Extra creative stuff...I'm designing a t-shirt for our school team for the local SPCA's Paws on Parade walk. We sell t-shirts at school for the walk and collect money for our school's team for the walk. This year we are the Panther Pups!! I'm the captain because it was my idea to participate as a school. :) I'm very excited about the t-shirts. I'll take a picture of them when they get printed.

Last thing, I decided to try to make a center pull ball before I casted on for the second sock. Hopefully this will work. I used the directions off of knittinghelp.com
