My birthday weekend....well...Frankie.

So...my birthday weekend started out great. Saturday, I went to brunch with some friends, my nieces and my sisters. It was great and then that afternoon, Kenny and I decided to take the pups to the park to go for a walk. We piled them into the back of my Xterra like we usually do. We cracked the windows just enough for Jackjack to get his head out and went on our way. Half way there, Frankie some how stepped on the window control, rolled down the window and jumped out of the moving car! It was INSANE! I can't tell you the details because they are still fuzzy but we stopped, he came to me and I grabbed him and realized he was bleeding from all four paws. To make a long story short, we rushed him to the ER vet and they bandaged him up. He has to have all four paws bandaged. He doesn't have any broken bones and thank God he's alive! The experience was one of those lessons you never want to learn this way.
He also has to wear these plastic IV bags when he goes out if it's wet because if the bandages get wet we have to take him in to get them replaced right away. He's not a fan of these.
I have learned that I MUST have the child locks on and that Frankie must be restrained and watched at all times in the car. I still can't believe it happened and even though it was an accident, it's hard not to blame myself for not being more vigilant. He's healing slowly and we have to have his bandages changed every 2 days for a while. They said the back ones will take longer to heal becuase they are worse than the front. He's in good spirits even though he's become a bit of a whiner because he is not a fan of the e-collar.
Thank you for all of the kind words and prayers. It's been a crazy and emotional weekend. I promise to keep you posted on how he is doing.

Well...I have more fibery and doggie pictures to share with you but I wanted to get this post up before it's been to long. I'm off to watch the Office and My Boys with my hubby and cuddle with the pups...oh by the way which I found out that I'm allergic to dogs today! HAHAHA It's funny because I am fine around my dogs and most dogs and that nothing will change other than I'll be adding dog to my allergy shots! Crazy though! Me allergic to dogs. :) hehehe

Ok...off to watch tv, knit and get some sleep. Tomorrow is my first day back to work after 5 days off...going to be a rough one!

  1. Glad that Frankie's on the mend. These critters can really move before you know it! And maybe he can pick up DirecTV on that dish. :)

  2. Awww, poor Frankie. Of course it's not your fault! Don't be silly!! Accidents happen whether we want them to or not. Thank goodness that he is okay & will heal. Hugs to you!!!

  3. Anita's right it's not your fault! Sometimes small creatures (dogs, cat's and even little kids) manage to do things you'd never ever think of. I'm glad Frankie's on the mend, before you know it he'll be all better.

  4. Glad he's on the mend! Now Matt always thought I was a bit anal with insisting the child locks were on when the dogs are in the car... :/
Btw, if he has to wear the collar for awhile, get him a Bite-Not Collar... they are much more comfortable for them. Zeus wouldn't move an inch with the cone, but with the bite-not he was fine.

  5. We have a yellow xterra and that is what my dog rolled the windows down in and jumped out of...soo,soo scary! Thank God he is ok! I'll be praying for his speedy recovery!

I'm allergic to dogs/cats/animals/all trees/all bushes..etc....and I still have them all! Now other peoples cats if they are allowed to go outside I have reactions too???Weird.

  6. Glad he's okay. And at least they now use clear "hats." Mugsy could be threatened with his hat for the rest of his life after his early experience, and he'd stop chewing/licking/whatever with just "Do you want your hat?"

I'm just glad he came to you!

  8. Oh Natalie!!! How scary and heartbreaking. You know, it's just like when things happen to your kids (cause the pups ARE kinda your kids). I remember I put M on the bed. She was really little, maybe 8 weeks and wasn't rolling yet, so I put her on the bed and went to grab my glass of water. I walk out of the bedroom and I hear this thud and this wail. Thank god she was okay, but it taught me a big lesson. Never underestimate the kid. I felt so guilty, I cried for hours. But in the end, I realized that this was a good lesson and it probably saved her from something worse.
I know petsmart has doggy seat belts. When we had our dogs, we never traveled without them. At first it took my dog a while to get used to it, but then it was okay. It just made us feel better. And luckily we have manual windows, but we still put the child lock on the door.

I am so glad Frankie was not seriously hurt. It wasn't your fault at all. That is why they are called accidents.

About the allergies. I always thought I was allergic to dogs and cats, but when I had my skin test I didn't show reactions to them at all. What we found is that it's not the dog I am allergic to, it's what they pick up that bothers me. So, it could be something in the dogs enviorment that is bothering you. grass on their fur, pollen, their owners scents (washing detergent) things like that. Allergies are a pain in the butt because it could be ANYTHING. I had a super bad reaction to something christmas 07. So bad I was covered in hives for almost two weeks. I thought it was agave nectar. Well the other week I mistakeningly look a drink of M's yogurt drink and the next day my husband freaked out when he saw it and was like omg don't eat it!!!! I had no reaction. So back to the drawing board.
wow, that ended up long. haha.

  11. Aw, poor Frankie! At least he is recovering now though, it could have been much worse that scraped paws.

Also, I can't believe you're allergic to dogs. Are you also allergic to wool? ;)
