Giveaway: Byvik Ink Letterpress

I have mentioned several times that my sister Cristina owns a letterpress company that she runs with her husband Kevin. I'm so excited to announce we have finally come together to do a giveaway!  YAY!!
My sister Cristina is a very talented illustrator.  Her and her husband started this company together a couple years ago called Byvik Ink Letterpress.  My sister designs all the amazing work they do and her husband does all the printing and general day to day operations.  They are the ones who designed our baseball themed save the date coasters and our elegant baseball wedding invites.  I love those designs and you are able to order your own wedding packages from their site!  They also have available a Football and a Big Wave wedding invitations.

Their shop mainly consists of hand-printed, ocean friendly, stationary along with some beautiful prints and extras.  There is so much I could share about their shop but really you just have to go check it out for yourself here!  The quality of their craftsmanship is amazing and I love the feel of letterpress.  They also offer wholesale orders, custom stationery, and letterpress printing.

I'm so so excited to announce this giveaway!  I'll be using the handy Rafflecopter widget to keep track of the entries but there are many ways to enter!  The mandatory entry is to visit their site and come back and comment on this blog post what is your favorite thing you saw on their site.  After that, you'll be able to enter the giveaway in multiple ways!

Barknknit Float for Parade!!

Here is my Float or entry into the Barknknit WIP Parade 2010!

The way my float will be organized is by cast on date with knitting first and then spinning.  I think this is a bit scary but we'll start there. :)

As a preview, here are all the project bags with the projects I'm  not actively working on this weekend.

AND LET'S BEGIN...

WIP #1: Entrelac Socks by Eunny Jang

These socks were started back on Feb 7th, 2008!  Yes, they have been on the needles that long!  I am done with the first sock but am stuck halfway to the heel on the 2nd.  I've been moving them from needle to needle yet I have not worked on them since I think May of 2008.  I also don't even know where the pattern is.  I have contemplated just giving up on these and leaving it as a single sock but I keep hesitating.  I have no desire to work on them so they sit in my stash in their project bag until the day I either give up or take them on.

WIP #2: The Subtle Stripe by Lara Killian

I knit one of these vest for my father and it went so quick. I actually knit the body of his vest twice.  I then cast on this one for Special K and it has been on the needles now official over a year.  I started this on August 23, 2009.  It's an easy pattern but for his he wanted it bigger than the pattern and I'm using worsted weight.  He also wants it longer so I didn't order enough yarn.  I'm worried that I won't have enough so I keep putting it to the side.  It gets knit on every couple months and I'm determined to finish this by Christmas.  Wish me lots of luck because I still need to order the yarn.

WIP #3: Barn Raising Quilt by Shelley Mackie & Larissa Brown

The first square for this was started on Sept 23rd, 2009.  It has always been intended as a baby blanket for our first child.  We had just started talking about trying and I started is as an intent blanket.  I have given into the fact that this will not be completed by my due date of Nov 29th for my first baby but that she will hopefully have this blanket before she turns 18.   I use it as an project to grab when I need something mindless and I'm in-between other projects.  I'm using all the left over bits of sock yarn I have in my stash and I have I believe 9 squares completed.

WIP #4: Hemlock Ring Blanket by Jared Flood

This project was started on April 1st, 2010.  If you listen to the podcast, this was started as part of a Jared Flood blanket KAL for the podcast.  I worked on it solely for a while and then I lost my knitting mojo and mojo to knit this blanket.  I plan to finish it hopefully by the end of the year but it's not a priority so it will sit waiting to be finished until I'm ready.  I will admin I can't wait to completed it and use it!  It's coming along so nicely!

WIP#5: Moonfleet by Janine Le Cras

This is my first Unique Sheep KAL that I ever joined and the colorway is their Barknknit colorway created for me. I started this on May 14th, 2010 and I was so excited about both knitting with lace and beads.  I really enjoyed both and learned a lot as I was going.  This was put on hold because I made a mistake in the lace and my pregnant brain just can't get around fixing it.  It's lovely and I want it completed but right now easier patterns seem to be what my brain can process.  I know I will have to frog at least three rows and then figure out where I am in the pattern to get going on this and so it sits and waits.

WIP#6: iPhone mitts by Julie Ridl

Last winter I knit several of these.  The first one was for my SIL, the 2nd one for my trip to Ohio for Christmas, and the 3rd for my nephew.  I loved the pattern and so did many others.  I had gifted my niece Surfer Girl with this yarn which is from Shelby B's Designs are it's her Ginny Weasley colorway.  My niece hasn't had time to knit anything with it and she wanted a pair of gloves so I told her I would knit them out of this.  I have finished the first glove but not the thumb and I'm almost done with the 2nd.  This is her Christmas gift so I have a bit of time before it needs to be done.  These were stared on September 3rd, 2010

WIP#7: Vanilla Socks ala Knitmore Girls.

I cast on these socks on October 7th, 2010.  I had decided that I would knit a pair of vanilla socks and then matching socks for my baby girl.  I'm using some Madelinetosh Tosh Sock in Tart colorway.  They are coming along pretty quickly.  I took this picture yesterday and I'm already done with the heel and on my way to the toe.  I did mention how my brain is enjoying the simple knitting right?

WIP#8: BFL Combed Top on my Spindle

I have been working on this longer than I can remember. :) Actually I'm pretty sure this was being worked on when I got my wheel back in Feb of 2009.  I pull it out every once in a while and spin some and I should be finished with it already.  I think it will get done when it does as I have no urgency to clear off this spindle.  This is my home-made spindle that I love and learned a lot on.

WIP#9: Politically Incorrect One night Stand Batts on my Majacraft Pioneer.

I purchased this fiber at the FL Fiber In this year and started working on it on Oct 2nd at a Pinellas Weavers guild spinning meet up.  I'm spinning it long draw and plan to navajo ply it.  It's a dream to spin and really enjoying the mix of the Merino and Silk in this batt.

Ok...so that is all I could find.  I will admit as a side note I have several things on my projects page on Rav that are not marked as complete yet because they need ends weaved in but for this WIP Float we are not counting those. :)

Hope you enjoyed my float and I look forward to seeing all of yours!  Happy Floating!!!

Contest: Barknknit WIP Parade

I'm excited to announce a blog contest!  This contest is called Barknknit WIP Parade!  While going through all the things that I have on my needles, I decided that I wished to find out how many things others have on their needles to make me feel better for having so many!  and this contest was born.

Post a WIP post of all your current Works In Progress on your blog.  You can post any project; knitting, spinning, crocheting, sewing, or any other craft you do.  You can write as little or as much about each one as you want.  Some suggestions: How long have you had it on your needles? Are you currently knitting it? What is the pattern and yarn you are working with? and so on.

2. Come back to this post and post a link to your blog post in the comments by October 31st.  You can also email gnat(at)barknknit(dot)com your link as well.

Prize and Sock update!! Thankful Tuesday

I'm still working on the sock. This picture is my progress on Monday afternoon. I've finished a couple repeats since then and am almost at the heel. The first sock flew by but now this second sock is killing me. I still have a chance to move on to the next round because 28 people have finished so far in my division. I love the pattern though!!Last week I also got a prize in the mail!! It's from a contest over on Michelle's blog McKnitter. She's a Florida knitter. :) I loved the prize. A purse, a skein of Ewe-phoria Yarns Sock It To Me Superwash Yarn in Pacifica, and pattern for River Valley Socks from Anni Designs. She also included this really cute sock bag that I'm pretty sure she made herself. It's so pretty and I love the fabric.
Fun prizes!! Ok...so I'm hoping to finish this sock soon and so I can get back to relaxing knitting and spinning. I haven't worked on anything else lately since starting this sock.

Thankful Tuesday this week is thankful that my blood test came back and everything is good. All my levels are normal. My uric acid levels are actually low to normal so I don't have gout. My blood sugar, cholesterol...all normal. :) YEAH!! This makes me very happy!! I'm healthy! So, today I'm very thankful that I'm healthy.

Hope everyone is well!!!

Be Thankful for today is a new day!

Valentine's Day Contest Winners!!

Ok...yes I realize I said I'd pick winners yesterday well...it didn't happen. :) I've been busy with recovering and well...Valentine's Day. I baked Special K a cake and wrote I (heart) U on it. Of course I thought about taking a picture but did I...ugh NO. Oh well...he appreciated it and as soon as he saw it wanted a piece. Since he is over 10 I said it was ok to have cake for dinner. The doctor looked at my toe today and said it is healing nicely. It the first time I'd seen the actual stitches too and let me tell you my toe is black and blue. OK...I'm just leaving you in suspense.

First off, money is kind of tight with all my medical bills that I decided to use red yarn in my stash for this contest. I hope no one minds because I had so much fun with this contest. Everyone had such great stories and I loved reading them all and being inspired!!

So...today I sat down and wrote out everyone's names and put in all the entries into Special K's ribbed Hat. :)

And I picked our winner!!
Kenyetta from Knittykittykat is our grand winner!! Her story is "Cal and I met 16 years ago, when he transferred to my high school. He was in my accounting class, so I buddied up to him. I actually helped him with his classwork and on his test-shhh... All the girls at school wanted him but I got him first!" She wins 2 skeins of Knitpicks Essentials and a package of Kisses.

Since there were so many of you who entered my little contest which was really a spur of the minute idea from Channon. Thanks Channon. :) I decided to pick two other winners but these were picked differently.

Our second winner goes to the person who has been married the longest. Sorry for those of you not married yet, I'm with you but come on she deserves a shout out for being married to her hubby for 35 years...and the winner is Grace Yaskovic of Loving Comfort Knits. Her story is "Tom and I met when I was 15 and a soph in high school, he was 17 and a junior in another school, in another state Our german teachers knew each other and planned a trip to Germany for the two schools. It was 1970 and 16 days, with airfare, hotel and meals was four hundred dollars and ten cents. Tom went with a girlfriend, but one night she wanted to go out with this geeky guy from my school so he asked me to go out with him. Heh we were alone on a dark bus in the Alps and he said I talked to much, so he shut me up the only way he knew how He kissed me. We have been together ever since, it will be 38 years in March, married for 35 of them this year, he is the love my life, I cherish everyday and every kiss I get from him" She wins a skein of Sugar n Cream Yarn and a package of Kisses. She also tied for our third category too.

And our third winner goes to the person who had the most people come to my contest through their blog and that winner is Channon from KnitTea. Her story is "The Knight and I met as toddlers at the firehouse. My dad was the chief. His dad was a new member. He'd chase me around the station. By third grade, we called ourselves "going together." Then, life happened, I moved away. Our families stayed in touch, and eventually, our life-long friendship found a chance at romance. The rest is history..." It's kind of nice she is getting a prize because she encouraged me too. She also gets a skein of Sugar 'n Cream Yarn and a package of Kisses.

Please go by and Congratulate out winners!! I'm sorry the prizes weren't better. I had big plans but with limit budget for fun stuff had to postpone those. But I promise to have another contest when things get better!!

Thank you again for all who joined in the fun. Happy Knitting!!

PS...if you won please email me your address so I can get those prizes in the mail!!

Recovery Update!! Thankful Tuesday and Wedding Wednesday!

So, yes I've been a bit quiet for the last couple days. After my toe surgery Friday, that lasted 2 and a half hours longer that originally projected, the recovery process has been interesting. The first two days, while the anesthetic was still in my toe I felt great. We had my sister and nephew over on Saturday for dinner and I was walking around great. Then that night the pain started. It hurt pretty bad. Special K blamed it on my walking around all day. I called the doctor and he said that I had gout in my toe that they removed during surgery and the pain is probably from the inflammation from that. He called in some major anti-inflammatory and I started that. Sunday was rough with my toe. Monday came along and it got even worse. I woke up with a horrible migraine and was puking most the morning which didn't allow me to keep the medication down which made my toe hurt even worse. Special K came home from work and helped me get situated and called the doctor who said that I just had to get through the migraine and get back onto the medications. I pretty much slept all day and ended up taking Tuesday off work as well. Originally I hadn't taken any day off this week but since it was so bad I did.

I'm back at work today, and trying very hard not to walk much and figured I'd throw up a post.

I'm late on the Thankful Tuesday and kind of on time for my Wedding Wednesday post. This week they are going to be one. Special K has been a blessing during this time of recovery. He has taken care of me hand and "toe." He has left work for me and been there for me when I needed him. I'm thankful that he is in my life and excited that he will be my husband. Since my recovery we haven't really done any wedding planning and will get back to it soon.

I watched a lot of We channel this weekend and saw a bunch of wedding shows. I realized what I like and what I think it unnecessary for my wedding. I know this is kind of lame post for two of my weekly posts but will all that has been going on it's what it is.

Last but not least. THANK YOU to all those who have entered my Valentine's Day contest. It has been so wonderful. I have loved reading all the stories and surprised at the response. There are over 70 people so far who have entered!! Amazing!! Thank you again. I will be picking a winner...maybe two since there was such a response, on Thursday. Sorry I haven't posted pictures of the prizes yet. Honestly today is the first day I've driven since Thursday so I haven't made it to buy anything yet.

Hope you are all doing great. Thank you also for those who listened to my second podcast. :)

Happy Knitting

A Valentine's Day Contest!! Part of Wedding Wednesday.

So, it's not Wednesday but after I wrote the post about Special K and I, and with the motivation from Channon from Chan Knits, I decided that it's a great time for a contest. :) Especially next week being Valentine's day.

Here we go. We will call this contest my Valentine's Day contest for kicks.

The rules are as follows...you will get one entry for each of the following:

1. Commenting about how you and your significant other met and "fell" in love. You may write whatever you like about the experience of meeting them or figuring out that you were meant to be together. I just love reading these stories and would love for you to share them.

2. Posting on your blog about the contest.

3. and last but not least an entry for each person who comments and tell me that you sent them.

I hope you enjoy my Valentine's Day contest. I think it will be fun. I haven't decided what the prize will be so I'll get back to you this weekend on that. I will pick a winner on Valentine's Day, February 14th.

Ready for the weekend!

Yesterday was not a great day. It started out with finding out that I do need surgery and it's scheduled for Feb 8th. It's not a huge deal but for some reason when I saw the x-rays and he started telling me I needed a surgery...all I could do was start to cry. After I finished with the doctor and scheduled the surgery and was walking to the parking lot I noticed this blue car had it's window broken out. I quickly turned around and headed back in to tell the receptionists and the lady standing at the counter was like I have a blue car. They all came out and she noticed that her purse which was on the front seat was gone. She held it together pretty well while I was there but the police were called. The rest of my day was kind of a blur of trying to stay calm about stuff. The evening was not great either and I don't really want to talk about it...but I have an emotional hangover from last night.

Today has started out OK but I'm not in the greatest mood so I'll spare you the melodramatics.

I am just going to share a contest with you over at Stitch Bitch. She is asking for your Fiber Fantasy. Mine right now because of all this craziness in my life would really be to be able to have a yarn shopping spree....I'd buy the yarn and needles for my wedding shawl and TONS of sock yarn!! Pretty colors and soft superwash merino wool. It's not going to happen so I just have to keep it in my Fantasies for now.

Well..hopefully I'll be back tomorrow with a brighter post. I swear I'm usually not so crazy and depressing.

Contest Winners!!!

Contest winners. First off I assigned every entry a number. I'm sure there are plenty of ways to do this but I'm a little drugged up because I had to play softball tonight and my wrist was killing me. So...I put them all in a hat....Had Special K picked not just one but 2 numbers out of the hat.

Drum roll please... The first winner of a set of knitting Christmas cards from Byvik Ink is Beth from A Quest for Relevance. She is thankful for "In a nutshell, I am trying to be thankful to my God for everything, because I believe it all comes from Him. Big things like my husband, children, good job, to little things,l ike a love of knitting and writing, and shiny faucets :-)."

The second winner of two skeins of Sugar n Cream yarn and a pair of bamboo knitting needles is Nicole from Nicole's Knits and Quirks. She is thankful for "I am thankful for my husband and my grandmother. My hubby and I got married this September and we are enjoying being newlyweds. I am thankful for my grandmother because she taught me to knit which lead to me seeking out my new (knitting friends)!"

Thank you everyone who participated in my first ever contest. I'm hoping to have more. I loved it. If the two winners can email me at gnatchat (at) gmail (dot) com with your snail mail addresses I'll send those out to you.

If you're wondering why two winners and not just one....well..I'm feeling so high from my recent engagement(or the meds) that I'm just feeling very generous. I'd love to send everyone something...but I am planning a wedding now. :) Thanks again for participating and I hope you keep stopping by.

Happy Knitting!!!

100th Post and my first Contest

My first post was almost 4 months ago on 7/20/07 and I'm already on my 100th post. I guess I have a lot to say. I have learned so much great things through blogging and met some great people.

I am the youngest of a big family. With four sisters, a step-sister, a brother and a step brother keeping in touch can get tough even when some live in the same town. My family has always been such a huge part of my life. When I lost my mother at a very young age, my older sisters(we'll keep their ages out of this), my brother, and father became even more important to me. They are the ones I call when I need advice, comfort, truths or love. Through it all they have always loved me. I know we may not always agree with one another's decisions but we have always been there for each other. I am thankful for my father and mother for having so many children. I am thankful that they believe in me and are there when I need them. I am thankful that my mother lived and lived well. I am thankful that she gave me the tools early on in life to help me be the woman I am now. Thank you family and friends for all the love you have given and will give.

This leads me to "I am thankful" contest.

Since Thanksgiving is coming around the corner and it is a time for family and thanks, I figured a good name for my contest would be the "I am thankful" contest. To enter please leave a comment telling me who and what are you most thankful for? How do you show your thanks?

The ways you can enter are the following: your comment gets you 1 entry, posting about this contest gets you another entry, and you get 1 entry for each reader who mentions you here. I will be closing the contest midnight on November 25, 2007.

The prize you ask...well I'm excited about this one...the prize will be a pack of cards designed by my sister, Cristina, who just opened up an etsy shop. She's an illustrator and works for a newspaper. She has always designed great cards and stuff for the family and now she started her own company per say called Byvik ink. Please go over and check out her shop, too. She said that a bunch of cards will be going up this weekend...so keep checking back.

Thank you for reading and hope you enjoy my first contest.

Wedding Weekend update and some sharing of contests!

I was in Raleigh, NC this weekend for my friend Annemarie's wedding. She planned pretty much the whole wedding herself and she did a great job. Everything went smoothly and she looked absolutely wonderful in her wedding dress. This first picture is her with her two Panama friends, me on the left and Gisella on the right. :) These are from my friends camera not the photographer....that's why we aren't looking at camera. ;)

This is Christiaan, her husband with all the bridesmaids. :)

We were having a great time at the reception. I think I walked around with the same glass of wine all night. :)

After the wedding and reception, we went to a bar and hung out. The guy is Blake, Annemarie's old roommates boyfriend. He is convinced that he will never marry. I was trying to help her out by giving him a talking to. :) It didn't work. He still never wants to...but I tried. Blake also just got Guitar Hero 3 and so I just have to try it out. Think we might be getting it for a Christmas present. The weekend was great. I won't tell you all the info but we had a small bachelorete party on Thursday. We went to a nice Italian restaurant and then headed to a local bar. It was very low key but very Annemarie. Friday was more errands and the rehearsal and dinner. That was also at a very nice Italian restaurant. You would have thought they were Italian not Panamanian and Dutch. Saturday was up early for hair and then off to the church for the wedding and then reception all evening. I had a great time and am thoroughly exhausted.

I got to catch up with some friends from Panama and meet her friends up there. I even ran into a friend from Panama's boyfriend who learned to knit last December when it was slow at work. We talked about knitting and I told him when he finishes his scarf...he will just have to do a guest post on my blog...so keep an eye out for that. :)

On the flight back from NC, I met a guy sitting next to me who works for Petfinder.com. Thought that was so cool. I told him about the link I have on my blog and he says soon they will have video on their site too. That is cool!! If you have never heard of Petfinder...you just have to go check it out!!

Well...knitting. I didn't really get much travel knitting done. I finished a coaster and cast on for my sock on the way up. I worked on my nephews hat while I was there because it was a brainless knit. The plane back I knit a couple rounds on the sock but slept most the flight. ;)

Contests....Ok...I won Cass' contest...that's exciting. Not sure what I won yet but waiting for her email. :) She also moved her blog over to wordpress so make sure to check it out.

Two contest you need to check out are over here. :) Remember to let them both know I sent you. http://knittingunderway.blogspot.com/ and http://lotusknitter.blogspot.com/
Both are comment contests.. :) Fun ones at that.

This is my 99th post and guess what that means...the next one will be a contest. :) I just found a great idea for my prize...so as soon as I get an email back from my sister then I'll post about the contest. It's going to be a comment contest so watch out for it.

My knitting group starts today. I'll post up pictures and let you know how it goes after my contest post.

Happy Knitting

PS...I usually love to leave comments on others blogs but when I got back I had over 200 blog post to read so I really skimmed through them. Sorry if I didn't comment. I'll resume commenting soon.

Contest Sharing, Swatching and softball.

You know how I love to share contests with you. :) I'm all about winning free yarn especially free sock yarn!!! Go over to Lotus Knits and answer the question for this week and let her know I sent you!!!

I swatched for the More Fun than Cables sock this afternoon and got to the gusset on the "Fawkes" sock. :) I'm almost to the toe...which is exciting.

Oh, Special K and I had the time for the game wrong...it was at 7pm. We got there late and our team had already had to forfeit. We both felt pretty bad but had a great time scrimmaging the other team. We could have easily beat them....UGH!!

Happy Sleeping!! :)

Cass' Contest

Ok, Cass over at Shut up, I'm Counting is having her contest for her 333rd post. :) If you don't already read her blog...well, you should. :) She's a great read and you just have to know that she is who she is and that is what's great about her. :)

So what to do....Go over to her blog and...
Post a comment (on her blog), telling (her) A Few of Your Favorite Things. Specifically, (she) want to know 3 of your favorite knitting related gifts, to give, receive, make or buy for yourself. These can be knitted or not, but it needs to be knitting related. If you have a link to the pattern or a pic, even better!

And, in keeping with the theme, you have 3 ways to win entries:
-Your comment (on her blog) wins you 1 entry.
-Posting this contest to your blog wins you another entry. (She'll be poking around all week, or if want to be sure (she) knows you've posted, come back here and tell me.)
-And you can earn 1 bonus entry for each of your readers who mentions you here.

Don't Forget to mention I sent you!! :) Thanks....I'd love to win her favorite 3 things.

Contest stuff.

I thought this idea was pretty cool. ;) Check out this contest. Don't forget to let her know I sent you!! Pretty Please!!

I'm about 10 posts away from my 100th post. Wow, I can't believe I've posted so many since late July. I'm thinking I should have my first contest then...so keep an eye out for it. Not sure what I'll do yet.

Happy Knitting!!!

Quick update

I won a contest over at KnitMap.com. YEAH!! It looks like a great prize!! If you haven't already you should check the site out. Add your local yarn shop or leave a comment.

I spent yesterday afternoon hanging out with my step-sister Luz, and Surfer Girl. We sat around and knit. We had a great time. Luz wanted to learn how so I taught her to cast on and knit. She's doing pretty good.

Yesterday morning and today has been spent working on the house because Special K's mom will be here next weekend. Special K did wonders on our front yard and is working on the backyard today. I'm helping and doing some other stuff around the house as well. Gotta get back to it!!

Happy Knitting!!
