Knit Night

Happy Hump day! Today was a long day...the weather is changing and there is a big storm brewing...which is making my head hurt pretty bad. Even though my head hurt, I headed over to the weekly Fiber Fanatics meet up for some fiber friend time.

Even though I didn't get much knitting done, I did have a fantastic time. My Godson Levi was there and he's just always so cute. I got to feed him dinner and it was nice to get a big smile when he first saw me.I am working on my pair of Iphone Mitts or what I'm calling text ready mitts. The first one is done and ready for Ohio! Just need to put down my book and get to finishing the 2nd one soon!

Most of the Thanksgiving weekend I spent reading. What am I reading may you ask? Well, my nose is stuck in the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. Currently, I'm reading number 7 Definitely Dead. The series is about a southern bell, who ends up dating a variety of supernatural creatures, such as vampires. There is a series on Showtime called TrueBlood that's based on these books. I've watched the first season and it's a bit racy but a still a good show.

Well..hope everyone is having a fantastic Hump Day. I'm looking forward to crawling in bed with my book and listening to the lightning outside.

Crochet at Knit Night Wednesday and Softball Thursday!

Last night was our weekly Fiber Fanatics meet up and I had a great time. I had not been in about a month and it was nice to see everyone. While I was there I worked on my friend's sweater some more and learned a new crochet stitch. The bottom is my single crochet practice and then the top next to the hook is my new skill...double crochet!
Sheryl brought my godson Levi and he was just so well behaved! He got a little fussy because he was hungry but for the most part he was a doll!
He's just TOO cute!! Look at that face!!
Sid brought me goodies!! She was at the bookstore and she saw these and since she knew I'm such a big fan she had to get me Edward and Jacob Skybars!! They are AWESOME! I think I laughed for about 5 minutes! She and Angela are not fans...they think Bella whines and Edward is a possessive stalker. :) They are half right but I STILL love him!!
Sid lent me this series about werewolves and it's awesome!! It's what I've been reading for a while. The series is written by Patricia Briggs. This particular series from her is called the Mercy Thompson novels and they are Moon Called, Blood Bound, Iron Kissed, and the book I'm reading now Bone Crossed. They are all really good! I've also read another one that Sid lent me called Cry Wolf and it's the first one in the Alpha and Omega series. It's with some of the characters from the other series in the same world. I love when writers do that! If you like werewolf/vampire books check out this series...even if you don't at least read Moon Called and give it a chance. She hooked me!

Well, tonight my family planned our second ever Family Softball Game. Everyone who wanted to and could played. We had a blast! My team won but mostly we all had good fun! Here's a pic of me up at bat!
Well...I hope you enjoyed this two post day! I'll try to come back sooner than I have been. I miss writing about my days and sharing pictures! I'm almost done with a couple projects so you'll get to see some FO pictures soon!

Happy Thursday! I'm off to bed to read and be glad tomorrow is FRIDAY!!!

Another package and some Handspun!

So, I got home today to another package!! This is great!! Considering all the negativity going on in my life right now...all these packages are coming at the best time possible! This package was quite ironic because yesterday I had called Sheryl to have her read her book to me to help me cast on 2 at a time and guess what came in the mail today!!

ponyknitpackage

Two awesome books from Amazon sent by Alicia from Ponyknit. One being 2 at a time socks by Melissa Morgan Oaks, which I was calling Sheryl about yesterday and the other my first official Elizabeth Zimmerman book, Knitting without Tears. I think I can officially call myself a knitter now that I own one of her books. :) Thank you Ponyknit for your great package! It put a huge smile on my face and made me laugh!!

After I took pictures and ran over to the computer to send her a thank you. I cooked myself some spaghetti and fed the dogs. After I ate, I dove into the lovely BFL roving that I got last week from Nancy. I started spinning a single and the fiber is lovely. It's my first BFL or Blue-faced Leicester(a type of sheep for those non fiber people) and I really enjoyed spinning it. I am not sure what the method I'm using is but I pre-drafted it and was just adding twist during spinning. It's coming out lovely. Check it out!! If it wasn't so dark out I'd take a picture outside but this is all I got. :)

Well...I'm off to let the dogs out again, change the laundry, get ready for bed, and do some knitting. I was going to dye some fiber tonight but it's raining and I like to mix my dyes outside so I figured I'd have to wait. I think I might take a personal day on Friday so I might do that then.

Happy Spinning!!

Happy Easter!! and Sock Madness socks are a FO!

Pattern: Zombie Socks by Sheryl Giles
Yarn: Colinette Jitterbug in Copperbeach.
: March 13 2008
: March 21 2008
Comments: I finished the Zombie socks for Sock Madness 2. These are my March socks and the fastest socks I've ever knit. It took me a week and a day to finish the pair of socks. The first sock was fun to knit and then the second was stressful but I sat down Friday evening and finished them. I was shaking by the time I reached the toe and knew that I might actually make it to round 2, which I did. I was #34 in my division to finish and 40 in each go to round 2. YEAH!! So, I'm going to figure that the 2nd round socks are my "April" socks. I hope I like the pattern.

Last night Special K and I colored eggs. Yes, we are silly. :) Special K did the two eggs on the left and I did the ball of yarn and needles. There were more but I liked these the best.

Hope everyone has a great Easter or Spring day!! We are heading to dinner(lunch) at Special K's step-mother's parents house. I was put in charge of fruit salad....I'm still "new" to the family. It's OK though...for now I guess I really don't want them to know I actually cook. :) After that we are hoping to stop by my sister's house to see them. They of course planned their lunch at the same time. Go figure. This always seems to happen to me. I just hope to see them for a bit.

Well, now that my socks are off the needles, it feels great. I knit two rows on my wedding shawl and worked on the Greenery Hat. I also spun a little bit of yarn on a wheel I'm borrowing from my friend Sean. I got frustrated and stopped but I had a little bit of fun. I also got a bunch of stuff in the mail, including the book Start Spinning from Maggie Casey. It's wonderful by the way, but it would be incredible to have her here to show me what I'm doing right or wrong.

I also got my order from SonnyandShear.com. I'll post up pictures this afternoon. I LOVED it. They are such a great company. I'll talk more about them later. :)

And anyone waiting for a podcast that will be up tomorrow afternoon. I'm planning to record tomorrow on my day off for "Easter Monday." I teach at a Lutheran school so we have Good Friday and Easter Monday off.

Happy Easter!!!

New Spinning book!

I was listening to Lime & Violet the other day and Violet mentioned this amazing book on how to learn to spin and well since I'm learning to spin now and would love a book on spinning. I ordered the book. It's called Start Spinning: Everything You Need to Know to Make Great Yarn by Maggie Casey.

If you plan on ordering it or want to check it out, click on the link below or the sidebar and order away. I'm part of the amazon associates plan so if you order from amazon through the links on my blog I get some percentage of the purchase.

Happy Spinning!!

Library!!

Last night while watching the baseball game, I cast on the hat for Special K. It's my first knitting in the round experience and I think I started out pretty good. I made one mess up on the second row but you can't really tell. I concentrated really hard on not twisting the stitches on the circular needles since that seemed to be everyone first comment when I told them I wanted to knit on them. I'm doing a patter of ribbing and I think between my knit stitches and purl stitches there seems to be a little bit of a loose edge. I was hoping to show it to the Audrey at Needles and Knobs but it's closed on monday. I only realized this after I showed up to show her. :) And yes if you notice I got her name off the newspaper article hanging on the window of the shop. I'm going to stop by tomorrow and show her. I might frog it and start over, we'll see. I'll take pictures of it tomorrow and post them.

On my way home I stopped by the library and checked out Stitch 'n Bitch, the knitter's handbook. I figured checking books out is a good way to keep my budget for actual yarn and needles. If I think it's a book I need to keep in my collection then I'll buy it. I'm finally trying to be financially savvy.

I also signed up for Ravelry today. Everyone's doing it....I also figure in the almost a month that I've been knitting I'm already got a bit of a stash started. It's not much but by the time I get my invite...since I'm like a billionth on the list then I'll have more projects and a bigger yarn stash to add.

Well...off to do some reading before bed. I've got to work on my classroom tomorrow so I won't get much knitting done until I get home in the afternoon and do laundry.
